The
countryside around Pirenopolis and Corumba is a landscape
of rare beauty.
As you travel up and down the forested mountainsides
and river valleys with perhaps a view of a spectacular
waterfall and pass into these old towns with their
cobblestone streets and colonial
houses you step back in time. The churches with
their baroque decoration, the beautifully crafted
stone walls, and the old royal
roads are interfaced with the scars of enormous
stone quarries on the mountains above the towns with
serious environmental degradation all around them.
