Located
on the Cumbuca River within the Munincipal
Park and a project of Sempre-Viva, the waterfalls
are open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Several
small falls form a large swimming hole called Ze Leandro,
ideal for bathing. The Cumbuca
River has special historical importance, as this is
where prospectors first found diamonds in the 19th
century. The resulting “diamond rush”
was responsible for the founding the towns of Lencois,
Mucuge,
Igatu
and others in this southwest region of the chapada.
Earlier explorers had followed this route along the
Contas
River in the 18th century as well.
