Considered
the 9th largest cavern in Brasil this one is also
considered the most ornamental in the region. Located
near
Iraquara (Bahia) the Torrinha features rare formations
including helictites, gypsum crystal straws, and the
second largest aragonite “flower” crystal
in the world.
Only one portion of the caverns is open to visitors
with the rest reserved for researchers. There are
underground lakes with one of them partially outside
the cave whose waters are used for irrigation.
Access is from Iraquara via highway BA-432. Follow
the signs.
